The West Houston Association honored David Wolff with the IMPACTAward February 24th in ceremonies at the River Oaks Country Club.  The Association was a vision of David Wolff who served as our first Chairman of the Board.

David Wolff

Now it seems like a foregone conclusion, but in 1977, when developer David Wolff stated in a local magazine that Houston’s growth would reach Katy and beyond within the next 20 years, it was a bold, even radical, prediction. Today, as West Houston’s growth marches past Katy to new frontiers, the West Houston Association is proud to present its second annual Impact Award to this far-sighted developer, who has helped shaped West Houston’s future for the better for nearly four decades.

Like the best visionaries, Mr. Wolff didn’t just sit back after predicting West Houston’s potential. Instead, he added grit to his vision, rolling up his sleeves and making the dream a reality. One of the earliest proponents of the Energy Corridor, the lynchpin of West Houston’s economic and demographic vitality, Mr. Wolff opened his Park 10 Regional Business Center in the 1970s. This 550-acre master-planned development attracted many of the world’s largest energy companies, and created a pattern of high-quality development that today makes the Energy Corridor a global contender for corporate headquarters. Mr. Wolff’s company has also developed thousands of acres in additional projects, including Westway Park, Ten Oaks, First Crossing and Interwood.

In the same article, Mr. Wolff stated that one reason he was drawn to real estate was because it “offered an opportunity…to shape what was going to happen in a better way.” As the founder of the West Houston Association, he helped to create an organization (the first of its kind in Greater Houston) that has been providing leadership in quality growth for over 25 years.

Mr. Wolff was also a founder of the Houston Economic Development Council, served two terms as Chairman of the Houston Parks Board, and is currently a Director of the Greater Houston Partnership. In 2004, he was appointed Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit Authority.
