Interstate 10 West Construction

Update Center

Managed Use Lanes are a unique feature on the New Interstate 10

Latest I-10 Lane Closures / Construction Updates (Link)   How will the Managed Use Lanes Work? (Link)

The New Interstate 10 serving west Houston's rapidly growing suburban communities will have a unique feature--a center, four lane section operated as a "manage use" facility.  These lanes, 2 inbound and 2 outbound, will provide transit and car/vanpool access along the corridor and will allow other vehicles access with a congestion priced approach.  During the peak travel times, use of the managed use lanes for these vehicles will cost more than during non-peak time, thus the phrase "congestion priced".

The Katy Toll Road/Managed Lanes begin west of SH 6 and end at the I-10/I-610 interchange (approximately 12 miles). The facility will include 2 lanes in each direction and 3 lanes at the toll area and will be operated by Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA). The facility is scheduled to open to the public in the Spring of 2009. The Katy Toll Road will be an EZ Tag only facility with a total of 3 tolling locations between I-610 and SH 6. Overhead signage will indicate which lane drivers should be in based on occupancy. Additionally, the toll lanes will be variably priced to manage congestion. HCTRA will vary pricing to maintain a state of free-flow on the toll lanes at all times, particularly during AM and PM peak travel times. Drivers will have multiple entrances and exit locations from both the eastbound and the westbound mainlanes of I-10. The facility will be in operation 24 hours a day.
