Committee Challenges & Opportunities
Adequate supplies of
surface water and effective and efficient waste water treatment
will remain critical in the support of Greater West Houston with
grow by 2050 of 1 million new residents. Challenges will
include providing economical and efficient services on a more
regionalized scale.
Surface water supplies
for metropolitan Houston should be adequate through mid-century.
However, with projected growth expected to increase the current
residential footprint by 100% by mid-century, distribution of
surface water and a new surface water source for the region
should be address now.
Address the issues of the
distribution of the water supply and potential future water
sources beyond 2050.
Address wastewater
regionalization acknowledging economics of development and
current treatment standards.
Develop consensus between
local, state and private sector to address the adequacy of water
distribution as well as the efficiency and cost effectiveness of
planned regional water systems.
