HCC Ribbon Cutting- The West Houston Institute

On Friday, March 2nd HCC celebrated the opening of the West Houston Institute with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The West Houston Institute strives to create a 21st century learning environment by providing a space to connect the dots between the various learning styles.  Creating new innovators with an entrepreneurial spirit will enhance the workforce, economic and overall community development here in West Houston. The facility includes a fully outfitted Makerspace which is 10,000 square feet, teaching innovation lab, conference centers, and learning commons for students to learn from each other. Houston Community College will also be implementing the IDEAS Academy and STEAMworks at their new facility. The IDEAS Academy stands for Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship integrated into Arts and Sciences. Their goal for this academy is to encourage students to work as a team and use technology to gain experience through problem solving in the real world.  The STEAMworks program will be an outreach to students K through 12 so they can get involved with this style of learning at a younger age and start preparing for the future. WHA is excited to celebrate the opening of the West Houston Institute with HCC as they create a great resource for their students and the West Houston community.
