WHA Wins the H-GAC Our Great Region Award in Diligence

On Friday, January 11th, 2019, the West Houston 2060 Plan was awarded the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Our Great Region Award in Diligence. The Our Great Region Award is given to five projects within H-GAC’s 13 county region that help “advance the goals and strategies outlined in the Our Great Region 2040 Plan.” The H-GAC 2040 Plan encompass’ six Big Ideas including economic development, environment, healthy community, housing, transportation and resiliency.

The West Houston 2060 Plan won in the diligence category which recognizes projects that “executed a creative and persistent approach to overcome challenges to implementation and demonstrates the importance of innovation and follow-through in the pursuit of inspiring projects.”

The 2060 Plan was created by our Board of Directors & committee leaders using projections provided by CDS on the areas population & job growth through the year 2060. Over two years a plan was formed describing the infrastructure required to accommodate the changing and growing population needs of the region. The focus topics covered in the plan are representative of each of WHA’s 7 committees and each section aims to tackle different challenges and opportunities in each. The West Houston 2060 Plan meets five of the six Big Ideas outlined by the OGR 2040 plan and we are honored to have received the award in Diligence.

The other winners recognized were:

Complete Communities by the City of Houston for the Reach Award

The RIDES Program by Harris County Transit for the Connection Award

Resilience Through Regeneration by A&M Center for Housing & Urban Development for the Opportunity Award

Avenue to Opportunity by Avenue CDC for the Excellence Award
