The Education & Workforce Committee met at the newly opened University of Houston Katy campus October 1st, 2019. The meeting begun with a tour of the campus given by Jay Neal, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of UH Sugarland and UH Katy, and Associate Professor. The new campus that will house both UH-V and UH main campus programs boasts state of the art nursing suites and engineering studios for hands on learning. Many classes in the nursing program will feature very sophisticated mannequins, some of which can even simulate the birthing experience. The campus also has patient suites that feature real hospital equipment and beds for students to not only learn, but practice in for a realistic yet classroom style approach.

The campus opened for students just one year after groundbreaking and plan to partner with Houston Community College soon to be located just across the street in hopes for a seamless transition from a 2-year institution to completing a 4-year degree. With 2,000 students already enrolled, plans for another building are not far behind. Read more on the UH Katy campus at the link below.
