Staff’s Corner: Communications and Outreach Updates

Hi everyone,

Can you believe it has been 8 months since I have joined the West Houston Association as the Communications and Outreach Manager? I hope you have enjoyed our articles, presentations, publications, newsletters, and social media presence thus far. We have made changes to our website and even provided a greater space for members to bring their subject matter expertise to the organization via op-ed pieces. We are currently working on WHA’s first ever Member Handbook and hope to have it complete by the end of the year. In it, you will find helpful information concerning membership policies and expectations for all. Our 2020 Development Map has also been completed and is available for printing through our membership portal in standard, legal, and 24”x36” sizes per request. This year it contains our Sustainability Stars Winners and it continues to offer insight concerning the growth and land use changes in Greater West Houston.

UPCOMING PROJECTS

My biggest project this quarter involves creating more videos to provide a more attractive, versatile, and sharable content concerning WHA initiatives. Developing a library of digital assets such as professional quality images and raw footage of your QPD and Sustainable Stars projects will help with this endeavor. This month, I will also begin contacting members on several of our committees for video interviews. These videos will be used to push the WHA mission forward in educating and advocating for sustainable infrastructure, flood control, and to highlight our committee agendas.

I have already begun creating relationships with your marketing teams to aid with this process; however, your help is needed to bring these projects forward to completion. Please check your inboxes, forward emails, and encourage virtual introductions.

Thank you in advance for your help as we continue to educate and advocate for our Greater West Houston community.

All the Best,

Lawanda Maxwell, MBA
