UH Katy Campus Groundbreaking

The University of Houston hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on May 23rd to celebrate their new Katy Campus. The campus is located on the northeast corner of Grand Parkway and Interstate 10. Forty -six acres of land were bought in 2016 by UH Systems from John Moody’s (WHA Chairman) company Parkside Capital. Construction of the 80,000-square foot building is expected to be completed in the fall of 2019 serving 2,000 students. Future goals include serving 8,000 to 10,000 students. Main features of the new Katy campus will be their Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Engineering Program.

The groundbreaking took place at 1:00pm with a reception immediately following. The Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Jay Neal, introduced many of the attendees who were essential in making this project a reality including elected officials and university employees. The theme that was echoed throughout the remarks was the university and community worked together to create this campus. Dick Phillips, Associate Provost, Outreach and Community Engagement, serves on the WHA Board of Directors and Jay Neal has become active on the Education & Workforce Development Committee. WHA is proud to have the University of Houston involved in our organization and expanding their footprint in our community.
